Certain paragraphs appeared in the local Chinese

Newspapers on the 30th. of March stating that Hung Tsun Fuk, the

leader of the attempted rising at Canton on last China New Year,

had been captured and that his dead body had arrived at Canton

on March 26th. These papers further stated, that it was rumoured

that he was captured in Sai Ying Pun in Hongkong and that the capture was arranged by the official informers of Admiral Ho, and that a reward of $20,000 was given for his capture.

On April 1st. these reports were brought to the notice of the Government, enquiries were instituted and the fol-

lowing facts were proved.

The real Hung Tsun Fuk was alive and left Hongkong

by the S.S. "Lightning" on March 31st. for Singapore which place he reached in safety. On March 8th, a man named Chung Cho Ting rented the 2nd, floor of No. 305 Des Voeux Road West (in Sai Ying Pun) from a man named Ng U Chiliving at 307 Des Voeux Road West. On renting the room he gave the name of Chau Heung Shan, but Ng U Chi had known him before under the name of Chung Cho Ting and knew him to be a robber. On the 10th. of March Cheung Cho Ting took up his residence in this room, and engaged two men, Kwok On and Wong So as servants. A prostitute named Ng Mui living at No. 16 Possession Street was accustomed to visit Cheung Cho Ting at that house no one else used to visit him. On the 12th. of March a person answering to the description of Cheung Cho Ting went to Canton and visited a man named Ng Luk, and nicknamed Tung Kun Nau, aged about 60 and bearing a slight resemblance to Hung Chun Fuk. Ng Luk's wife Ip Ho states that this man made himself very friendly with her husband, gave him some clothing, told him that if he was in need of employment he should go to see him in Hongkong and that he
